ENERGY USE AND BASIC ENERGY PRINCIPLES

"THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SUSTAINABLE BUILDING, ONLY SUSTAINABLE SOCIETIES." - Fundamental of Integrated design of Sustainable Building

Most people do not often think about the impact building have in the environment. In fact, most people have no idea what I am talking about.

Buildings account for 40% of world wide use.

There are four reasons that  explain why we should be concerned with the energy that is being used in buildings: 1 - fossil fuels are non renewable, and supplies won't last; 2 - the deposit of "clean"fossil fuel used all over is limited and it is only used in geopolitical hot spots; 3 - the demand and production for fossil fuels keep rising; 4 - the coal used to generate electricity releases gases in the atmosphere that changes the Earth's climate.

As future architects, we ought to be aware and team up with those folks that are trying to change the world by reducing the use of energy in buildings: such as Architecture 2030. This organization is a non-profit and their goal is to combat global warming and change their status from major contributors of greenhouse emissions.

This is a major issue that is causing climate change, affecting water resourcing, natural habitats, forests, agriculture.
